Inaugurated

KOCHI, JAN. 27. The district secretary of the CPM, Gopi Kottamurikkal, inaugurated the Kannan Nair Memorial Cultural Centre building at Deshabhimani Road today. Kannan Nair was a CPM leader and former general manager of the Deshabhimani.

Demonstration

Auto workers, affiliated to the Auto Drivers' Federation (AITUC), held a demonstration in front of the Ernakulam South railway station today to protest against open canvassing by a section of auto drivers in the two railway stations in Ernakulam.

Celebrated

The Central Administrative Tribunal here celebrated Republic Day on the office premises. The vice-chairman, A.V. Haridasan, hoisted the national flag.

Medical camp

A free medical camp will be held on Friday at the Pamba Tourist Home near Medical Trust Hospital for diabetic foot ulcer patients. For details, call 093921 13356.

New course

A memorandum of understanding between the Cochin University of Science and Technology and the Builders' Association of India will be signed tomorrow for a new course in civil engineering at the university. The MoU will be the highlight of a seminar being organised here on Friday by the university and the builders' association on the problems and prospects of services through civil engineering.

Inspection

G. Narayanan, Divisional Railway Manager, and a team of officials, today inspected the Shoranur-Trivandrum Venad Express between Thrissur and Ernakulam.

All passenger amenities and fittings were thoroughly checked. Forty-five ticket-less travellers and two unauthorised vendors were fined.
