NEW DELHI, JAN. 27. Hot on the heels of his municipal councillor brother's murder, a 40-year-old man was gunned down by some unidentified assailants in his shop at Gurgaon in Haryana today. Fearing violent protests by residents, police personnel were deployed in the area. It all happened around 4-30 p.m. when Karamvir was sitting in his shop "Bittoo Motors" near Raj Mahal Delux Hotel in New Colony. According to the police, about four men arrived in a Maruti 800, entered the shop and started firing indiscriminately at Karamvir. After he sustained bullet injuries, they dragged him out of the shop and again fired at him from point-blank range. Hearing the gunshots, Karamvir's neighbour, Yogendra rushed to help him but the assailants shot at him in the leg, immobilising him. They then vanished from the scene. The police recovered 15 empties and a magazine from the spot. Karamvir was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. As the news of the murder spread, his angry supporters came out on the streets. Apprehending violence, security in the area was tightened. About a month ago, Karamvir's brother, Ranvir Kataria, who was a municipal councillor, was gunned down in the same fashion just outside his house in broad daylight. No one has been arrested in that case. The police are investigating to find out whether the murders have anything to do with political rivalry.
