Disrespect?

Sir, — As part of the Republic Day celebrations, plastic flags were distributed to children and participants at flag-hoisting functions. These flags were abused in many ways — they were left behind on the ground, children played with them, and adults threw them away. Do all these not amount to disrespecting the national flag? The Government should ban production of synthetic flags.

I. Nikhila Devi,
Erode, T.N.
