Furniture price to go up

COIMBATORE: The South Indian Furniture Manufacturers' Association here has decided to hike the price of its products by 10 to 15 per cent following the rise in raw material prices. According to a release from V. C. Kumarasamy, its secretary, an emergency meeting of the association's general council, presided over by the president, C. V. Balakrishnan, took into account the hike in price of CR sheets by the Steel Authority of India and also the rise in prices of paint, pipe and welding rod and increase in electricity tariff. Such a situation might lead to closure of thousands of small furniture manufacturing units, it apprehended. Hence, the decision to hike the price of furniture.
