DAVANGERE, JAN. 28. Journalists of Davangere took out a procession here on Friday to protest against the attack on the Chitradurga correspondent of The Hindu allegedly by the followers of the Chitradurga MP, N.Y. Hanumanthappa. The protesters raised slogans against Mr. Hanumanthappa and marched from the city municipality to the Deputy Commissioner's office. They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy demanding that the MP and his followers be arrested. They also condemned the recent attacks on and insult of journalists by politicians, including the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, and said that politicians were trying to demoralise journalists. The Davangere unit of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists decided to boycott all functions where the Chitradurga MP is to participate till he apologises for his alleged misconduct.
