Dileep best actor, Geetu, Kavya share honours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 28. `Perumazhakalam' directed by Kamal and `Kazhcha' by Blessy have been selected the best films of the year 2004 by the Kerala Film Critics Association.

Dileep has won the best actor award while Geetu Mohandas shares the best actress award with Kavya Madhavan.

The award for the best director goes to Kamal while Blessy gets a special award.

Announcing the awards at a press conference here today, the association president, Thekkinkadu Joseph, and the general secretary, Mannarakyam Baby, said Mammootty would be honoured with the Chalachitra Ratnam award for his versatile performance in various roles.

Dileep was selected the best actor of the year on the strength of his performance in `Kathavaseshan'. Geetu Mohandas won the award for her role in `Akale' and `Oridam' while Kavya Madhavan bagged the award for her performance in `Perumazhakalam' and `Annorikkal.' `Akale' directed by Shyamaprasad was adjudged the second best film.

Mamukoya was selected the second best actor for his role in `Perumazhakalam' while Ambika (Annorikkal) was adjudged the second best actress. The best child actor award has gone to Master Yash (Kazhcha).

Madhu Balakrishnan was selected the best playback singer for the song `Chembakame --` in the film Kakkakarumban while the best female playback singer award has gone to Sujatha Mohan for the song `Amma ennoru konchal ---` in `Thudakkam.'

`Oliche Kande' directed by M. G. Sasi is the best documentary while `Padavukal' directed by Harikumar gets a special award in this category.

Ramesan Nair (Ee Sneha Theerathu), Music direction- Alphonse Jose (Jalotsavam), Cinematography- S. Kumar (Akale), Editing- Vinod Sukumaran (Akale), Sound recording- N. Harikumar (Perumzhakalam, Kaazhcha and Oridam), Art direction- Sasi Perumanoor (Annorikkal), Make up- Salim Kadakal (Annorikkal), Costume- Kuku Parameswaran (Akale), Choreography- Cool Jayanth- Sujatha (Vesham), Dubbing - Meera (Manhupoloru penkutty), Debutant artiste- Meenakshi (Kakkakarumban), Debutante director- Pradeep Nair (Oridam), Most popular film- Sethurama Iyer CBI (directed by K.Madhu), Best book on films- Aaranu Budhanallathathu (I.Shanmughadas), special jury award for film book- Good luck to everybody (R.Gopalakrishnan), C. K. Soman award for contribution to film field- M. M. Balachandran. Yanam directed by Sanjay Nambiar gets a special jury award. Film producer, M. M. Ramachandran, lyricist, Poovachal Khader, dubbing artiste, Chandramohan, actress, Vidhubala, and music director, M. G. Radhakrishnan, will be honoured with Chalachitra Prathibha awards instituted by the association.
