CHENNAI, JAN. 28. The Deputy Mayor, R. Thiagarajan, today administered the anti-untouchability oath to staff of the Chennai Corporation. The occasion was held to mark Martyrs' Day, which is also used to take oath not to practise untouchability in any form. At the Collectorate, the Chennai Collector, V. Kannusamy, administered the oath to the staff. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, whose death anniversary falls on January 30. The observance was advanced as January 30 is a holiday.
