Namaz for rain

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN. 28. Himayathsagar will witness a large gathering of Muslims performing `namaz' on its banks at 11 a.m. on January 30. The `namaz' will be performed for rain over the dried-up reservoir so that drinking water will be available for citizens.

The organisers of the event are planning to mobilise 50,000 persons, but the turnout is expected to be more. The APSRTC and Tourism Development Corporation will run special buses to the lake from different parts of the Twin Cities.

The prayers will be led by Moulana Hameeduddin Hussain Aquil, a cleric and founder, Jamia Islamia, who conducted a similar `namaz' when the lake went dry in 2002. People from other communities have also been invited to join the prayers.

The Information Minister, Mohd. Ali Shabbir, Moulana Aquil and Raheemuddin Ansari, secretary of the organisation, told a press conference here on Friday that there was rain last time and hoped it would repeat now.
