Pondicherry
By Our Staff reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 29. The president of the Pradesh Congress Committee, V. Narayanasamy, MP, today said that he would meet the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and seek his intervention to end the "tussle" between the Education Minister, K. Lakshmianrayanan, and the Collector, V. Candavelou. At a press conference here, Mr. Narayanasamy said it was a matter of concern that the Collector had decided to revise the ticket fares for air-conditioned and other cinema halls in Pondicherry without taking the Minister into confidence. Mr. Lakshminarayanan is also in charge of the Revenue Department. The new fares came into force on Friday despite the Minister's protest against the decision. Pointing out that an official could not decide a matter of public importance without apprising the Minister concerned, Mr. Narayanasamy said if there were a public backlash against the decision, the Minister would be answerable. The Education Minister, who protested against the Collector's decision, said the revised rate should be kept in abeyance.
