VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 29. Any attempt to arrest the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, holding him responsible for violence in the aftermath of the murder of the TDP MLA, Paritala Ravi, will be disastrous to the Congress Government, the party urban district unit has warned. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the TDP urban president, M. Sundaram Patrudu, alleged that the Government was planning to arrest Mr. Naidu. Claiming that Mr. Naidu had given a call to all TDP units to observe bandh peacefully while protesting against the Government's failure in providing protection to Paritala Ravi, he alleged that the arson and violence was the handiwork of some anti-social elements. Mr. Patrudu urged the Government not to target Mr. Naidu.
Free power
He also ridiculed the Congress Government for its failure to keep the promise of free power to all farmers. "Even the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is accusing the Government that the irrigation projects are initiated and tenders called only to take kickbacks and commission,'' he pointed out. The TDP spokesman, S.S.N. Raju, wondered why there should be any ambiguity on the contents of the FIR filed in the Paritala Ravi murder case. "The Chief Minister first says that a Minister and the IG of police were mentioned in the FIR and next announces that there is no such mention," he observed. The former MLA, Palla Simhachalam, Gudivada Nagamani and other TDP leaders were also present.
