Rs. 58 lakhs for "Gajagamini"

MUMBAI, JAN. 29. M. F. Hussain's "Gajagamini" fetched Rs. 58 lakhs, as the Mumbai police raised Rs. 1.82 crores from an auction of paintings to raise money for the police welfare fund here today. However, his creation "Madhuri with H," would be sold as serigraphs (paintings on silk). Five hundred such serigraphs will be prepared of the painting and sold for Rs 1,000 each and the proceeds would go to the fund. Five paintings, that remained unsold, would be purchased by businessman Guru Swaroop Shrivastava who had earlier purchased 100 Hussain paintings in a record deal of Rs 101 crores.
