Letters to the Editor
Sir, Though the inadequacies of the civic authorities and the temple managements have been pointed out in tragedies such as the one that claimed 258 lives in Satara, Maharashtra, the act of some angry pilgrims who set the temporary stalls in the vicinity on fire was also condemnable. People should conduct themselves more responsibly when they are in crowded places.
Vaidehi Bhatia,
Sir, When temples anticipate crowds, their managements, along with the local civic authorities, should make special arrangements. Safety and security of the pilgrims should be the priority. Temporary stalls with thatched roofs, pandals, makeshift kitchens, cloth banners, tents, gas cylinders, and illegal electrical installations should be banned near the vicinity.
