GUWAHATI, JAN. 30. The India chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has decided to sell North-East tour destinations to its clientele. A PATA delegation told reporters here today that it was high time the region was sold as a destination to both domestic and foreign tourists. A PATA delegation toured Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya at the invitation of the Ministry of Tourism for a first hand information on tour destinations, infrastructure and connectivity. To show that the PATA was serious in promoting the North-East, a 10-member team, comprising seven leading tour operators from Delhi and one from Mumbai, visited Shillong, Kohima, Pasighat, Dibrugarh and Kaziranga, said Pawan Khanna, a member of the delegation. The PATA delegation was led by the Union Tourism Secretary, Uma Pillai. Ms. Pillai told reporters t that the Ministry had given high priority to showcasing the region's unique culture, customs and environment to sell it as a major tourist destination.
