SHIMOGA, JAN. 30. The Deputy Commissioner, Tushar Girinath, has said that a door-to-door survey will be taken up to revise the list of yellow ration card holders in the rural and semi-urban areas in the district to ensure that only those living below the poverty line get the ration cards. Speaking at a meeting at his office recently to discuss the preliminary preparations for the survey, he said gram panchayat and ward-level committees have been formed to ensure transparency in the survey. He said the officials involved in the survey will be held responsible if "ineligible" families are found to have been included in the list of yellow ration card holders.
Lists displyed
The Deputy Commissioner said the survey will commence on February 10, and added that the lists of "eligible and ineligible" families have been displayed at the gram panchayat offices. The dates on which the survey will be conducted will be announced in villages well in advance, he added. Mr. Girinath said those who owned two hectares of cultivable land or telephone or a cell phone, petrol or diesel-run vehicles, or had availed themselves of loan of over Rs.1 lakh from a nationalised or cooperative bank, government employees drawing a salary of more than Rs. 1000 a month, APMC commission agents, contractors, businessmen and traders in seeds or fertilisers cannot apply for the yellow ration card.
Standard of living
Mr. Girinath said the standard of living of families will be taken into consideration while determining their financial status. He said the final list will be announced after the gram panchayats concerned approved it.
