Raman ousts Sharath Kamal

PANVEL, JAN. 30. S. Raman, the seasoned campaigner in the national circuit, showed his PSPB team-mate A. Sharath Kamal what temperament is all about, during their quarterfinal match in the senior nationals here on Sunday.

Though Sharath won the first game 11-4, Raman came back brilliantly to take the next three games. The No. 1 ranked Sharath tried his best to claw back with a win in the fifth game, Raman's calm demeanour helped him to cause the biggest upset of the event.

Sharath Kamal, however, combined with Ranvir Das to annex the men's doubles title, beating Soumyadeep Roy and Subhajit Saha.

Arup Basak and Nandita Saha took the mixed doubles title, defeating Rajesh and Swarna in straight games.

In other actions in the men's quarterfinals, Arup Basak downed Aniket Koparkar, while Soumyadeep Roy ousted R. Rajesh. Sourav Chakraborty accounted for Subhajit Saha in straight games.

In the women's quarterfinals, top-seeded Poulomi Ghatak downed T. Pradeepa in straight games and second seed Mouma Das beat Anindita Chakraborty 4-1.

Nandita Saha and N.R Indu also made the semifinals, beating Mantu Ghosh and Mamta Prabhu respectively.

The highlight of the morning session was the upset win scored by un-seeded R. Rajesh (TN). He ousted 10th-seeded Shubham Choudhary (PSPB) in a match that went to the wire.

Second seed in the women's section Mouma Das was made to sweat for every point by un-seeded Delhi's Neha Aggarwal. Mouma won the match in the deciding seventh game.
