Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, JAN. 30. The District Congress Committee (DCC) on Sunday refuted the TDP charge on wresting the Zilla Parishad Chairpersonship from the latter and stated that there was nothing undemocratic in it. Addressing a press conference here, the DCC president and Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, the newly-elected ZP Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, the Singanamala legislator, S. Saialajanath, and others said the Congress won the ZP seat morally during the last local bodies' elections itself but only the technicalities had denied the post. They stated that fair elections were held only to 50 out of 63 ZPTCs. In the remaining 13 ZPTCs, the TDP had won 11 by resorting to undemocratic acts like threatening the contestants and their supporters. Among the 50, the Congress had won 27 seats, they said. Condemning the murder of Paritala, they demanded that the culprits be booked. Besides, those who were responsible for the violence in the aftermath should also be punished, they said. The Congress leaders alleged that the violence was master-minded by the TDP leadership in Hyderabad.
