U.K. plane crashes in Iraq

BAGHDAD, JAN. 30. A British C-130 military transport plane crashed today north of Baghdad, a senior U.S. military officer said. There was no immediate word on casualties, but the official said the plane's wreckage was scattered over a large area.

The C-130, en route from Baghdad to the city of Balad, was confirmed down about 40 km northwest of Baghdad, said the official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity. The British embassy spokeswoman said she could not confirm the report. — AP
