HYDERABAD, JAN. 30. The Apollo Hospital today announced the installation of the latest PET-CT scan at its complex in Jubilee hills, here, with an investment of Rs.30 crores. Addressing a press conference, the chairman of the Apollo Hospital group, Prathap C. Reddy, claimed that such equipment was not available "in this part of the world." He said the 16-slice PET-CT scan would be operational shortly and appointments given from February 5. Declaring that his dream was that India should become the heathcare destination, he said the cost of the diagnosis would be US$ 500 to 600. This facility was being established in partnership with Gleneagles Pvt. Ltd.
Extensive use
Explaining the applications of the advanced scanning device, doctors said that it was used extensively in oncology (85 per cent), followed by neurology and cardiology. They said that the device would make it possible to see the detailed anatomy and functional processes at the molecular level. The speed, accuracy, precision and minimum radiation exposure are hallmarks of the new technology. They said that it would help in diagnosing a lesion much earlier than any other tool, its precise location and extent.
