Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
Pondicherry Jan. 30. A one-day conference of the Federation of Union Territory of Pondicherry unit for SC and ST Government Employees has urged the Union Government to ensure job reservation in the private sector. The Federation president, M. Radha, in a release said that the State administration should release a "white paper" on the welfare schemes implemented for the downtrodden. The Centre should be persuaded to recognise the scheduled tribe people residing in the Union Territory. For decades, they had not been recognised and hence deprived of the benefits of reservation. The conference sought reservation for scheduled caste candidates in cooperative undertakings and cooperative societies and federations in the Union Territory. The administration should not delay reservation facilities in statutorily established undertakings such as the Civil Supplies Corporation and Agro Industries Corporation, Tourism Development Corporation and in autonomous institutions like the Agriculture College and Power Corporation.
