THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 30. The convener of the United Democratic Front, P.P. Thankachan, on Sunday demanded a review of the State's Government's decision banning all lotteries. The UDF convener urged the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, to take urgent action in the matter. An all-party meeting should be convened, if necessary, to bring about a consensus on the issue, he said. Mr. Thankachan suggested that if there were impediments in bringing legislation against operation of online lotteries, the possibility of allowing them along with the State lotteries, subject to strict regulation, should be examined. He said the ban on the Kerala State Lotteries was unfortunate though the ban on online lotteries was welcome.
New legislation
He said that if the court orders were in the way of a ban on online lotteries alone, the Government should bring in new legislation in the current session of the Assembly.
