Rehabilitation: no decision yet on design of houses

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JAN. 30. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, held talks with Mata Amritanandamayi at Amritapuri, near here, this evening to sort out issues related to the design of the houses to be constructed as part of the rehabilitation programme for those who had lost their houses in the tsunami onslaught.

Though the meeting lasted for almost an hour, a final decision could not be reached. The Chief Minister told presspersons that a meeting of the engineers concerned and the District Collectors of Kollam, Ernakulam and Alappuzha will be held in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow. It is hoped that a final decision on the design will be arrived at during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Amritanandamayi Mutt said that following an understanding with the Tamil Nadu Government, the Mutt would construct 2,500 houses in Nagapattinam and adopt 250 children orphaned in the tsunami strike.
