Minister trains guns on Naidu

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 30. The burning of State Road Corporation buses by Telugu Desam Party workers in the wake of Paritala Ravindra's killing dominated the proceedings at the assumption of charge by the chairman of the APSRTC, Gone Prakash Rao, here on Sunday.

Led by the Transport Minister, S. Santosh Reddy, the speakers at an impressive function accused the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, of provoking his party cadres to target RTC buses resulting in torching of 81 buses and severe damage to 575 others. They made a forceful demand to seek damages from the TDP and stringent action against the culprits.

High-power panel

Mr. Santosh Reddy questioned the propriety of the TDP workers in targeting buses. "What has the APSRTC to do with the murder of an MLA?" he questioned. It was already running in losses and the total accumulated losses had touched the Rs. 1,000-crore mark, he added. A high-power expert committee had been constituted to suggest ways and means to bail out the corporation.

Mr. Prakash Rao faced embarrassing moments when the Minister for Youth Services, T. Harish Rao, took offence to his reference to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao's family.

Mr. Prakash Rao referred to his unsuccessful attempts to secure the Congress ticket from Peddapalli Assembly constituency. He recalled how the senior party leader, G. Venkatswamy, tried to contact Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to leave the Peddapalli seat to the Congress. However, his attempts to contact the TRS chief went in vain. This prompted Mr. Harish Rao, a nephew of the TRS chief, to question whether the occasion warranted such a reference. Mr. Prakash Rao said whatever he had said was true.

The Endowments Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, made a fervent appeal to protect the RTC property.

The Congress MP, G. Venkatswamy, the APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, P. Gautam Kumar, the Ministers, Laxmikanta Rao, Konathala Ramakrishna,
