BANGALORE, JAN. 30. Sagar G. Muthappa, a former National Rally champion, stroked his way to the title in the 0-14 handicap category of the Mercedes Southern regional final at the Karnataka Golf Course here. The other winners were Shanmugam (category `B'), and Nitin Madhana (category `C'). The Mercedes Trophy is an exclusive tournament for Mercedes owners. The tournament is being sponsored by Daimler Chrysler Benz and co-sponsored by Swiss International Airlines and Mont Blanc. The Western regional round of the Mercedes Trophy was earlier played at Mumbai and the Northern and Eastern regional finals would be played in February. The all-India final is slated to be held at Pune, on March 12. The winners and runner-up in each category at each of the three regional tournaments will compete in the Pune final. The winners of the all-India final get to participate in the Mercedes Trophy World Final 2005, which is an annual congregation of the finest proven players and Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts. This Golf-fest will be played at Stuttgart, Germany, from September 22 to 27. The Indian qualifiers, would be flown by Swiss Air to Stuttgart.
