SALEM, JAN. 30. The Pattali Makkal Katchi president, S. Ramadoss, today said the DMK-led alliance would without "splits and breakaways" face the Assembly elections, which, in all probability, would be "held in July-August this year." Dr. Ramadoss told presspersons here that the alliance, comprising the PMK and other political parties, formed during the last Assembly polls would remain intact for the coming polls too. There was a possibility of bringing more parties into the fold. "The DMK-led Government will take over after the elections." The PMK chief said the Tamil Nadu Government, which promised to encourage the use of the Tamil language in all spheres of its activities, adopted "double standards" by declining to have the Tamil translation of the Governor's speech in the Assembly read out. Though the speech was a mere "ritual statement" primarily used to highlight the Government's promises and impending schemes, the customary practice of reading out its Tamil translation should be adhered to. He demanded an `action taken report' on the schemes and promises made in the Governor's speeches since 2001-04. It should be placed before the Assembly too. Dr. Ramadoss wondered how the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, could claim that groundwater in Tamil Nadu showed signs of improvement.
