Swantons CC triumphs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 30. Swantons Cricket Club, Ernakulam posted an easy 70-run win over Cycle Brand-Kids Cricket Club, Thiruvananthapuram to emerge the winner of the 10th Celestial Trophy all-Kerala cricket tournament at the Medical College ground here on Sunday.

Batting first, Swantons CC helped by an unbeaten 60 by Robert Fernandez posted a total of 175 before being bowled out in the 38th over. However, it was successful in defending its modest total as it reduced Kids CC, already without the services of Bijumon and Rakendu (who were injured while fielding), to 105 for eight in 35.3 overs.

The scores: Swantons CC 175 in 37.5 overs (Robert Fernandez 60 not out) bt Kids CC 105 for eight in 35.3 overs (Sambasiva Sharma 47).

Special awards:

Best Batsman: A.V.Arun (Kids CC); Best bowler: Shiju (Kids CC); Man of the Final: Robert Fernandez (Swantons CC); Man of the Tournament: Vimal Raj (Swantons CC); Promising youngster: Sachin Mohan (Pankajakasturi CC).
