KOCHI, JAN. 30. Kochi Refineries Limited `A', with 136 points, regained the Ernakulam District A-division cricket league title after a year's break. The surprise of the championship, however, was Scorpions CC `A' (Tripunithura, 105) which was making its league debut. Scorpions finished runner-up, pipping a few seasoned teams. Ernakulam CC `A' finished third (103) while defending champion Swantons CC was fourth. KRL's Ranji star M. Vipinlal, with 403 runs, was the highest scorer while Ernakulam CC spinner Sunil Kumar was the top wicket-taker in the eight-team league. Rayro CC (Aroor), with a fine allround performance from Sreekumar (3-41 and 46 n.o.) defeated MYCA `A' (Mattancherry) by four wickets in the league's concluding match at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Sunday. MYCA `A' and Globstar Telecom (Aluva), which finished at the bottom of the league, were relegated to the next season's B-division.
The top three: 1. KRL `A' (Ambalamugal, 136 pts), 2. Scorpions CC (Tripunithura, 105), 3. Ernakulam CC `A' (103). Our Principal Correspondent.
