`Withdraw ban on State lottery'

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JAN. 30. The State president of the Kerala Gazetted Officers' Union (KGOU), Jose Kurien Kattukaran, has protested against the banning of the State lottery.

He was inaugurating the working committee meeting of the KGOU district unit here on Saturday.

He termed the ban as an instance of cutting the nose to spite the face. The State lottery had provided a livelihood for many and revenue to the exchequer.

Those who depended on lottery sales were mostly physically challenged persons and people who were financially weak. It was these sections that were badly hit.

A Government committed to social justice should take urgent steps to withdraw the ban. If not, the Government would have to pay a high price. The district president of the KGOU, C. Rajan Pillai, presided over the meeting. The State vice-president, P.K. Jacob; the State secretary, C. Gopalakrishnan, and the district secretary, Sabu Xavier, were among those who addressed the gathering.
