KOZHIKODE, JAN. 30. The Mayor, Thothathil Ravindran, inaugurated a Stroke Update-2005, the fifth annual continuing medical education programme organised by the Calicut Neurological Society (CNS) here today. Neurologists emphasised the need to create an awareness among the public on the seriousness of stroke. Like heart attack, stroke required swift medical attention. If a person had cerebral blockade, lifelong medication was necessary to avoid its recurrence, they said.
Brain blockage
Speakers also pointed out that a predominant factor in causing brain blockage and rupture of blood vessels to the brain was a change in lifestyle. Controlling blood sugar and cholesterol would help eliminate the threat of stroke, the CNS secretary, V.G. Pradeep Kumar, said while briefing presspersons about the programme.
