MANGALORE, JAN. 30. Though the Common Entrance Test (CET) was introduced in 1993 during the tenure of M. Veerappa Moily as the Chief Minister, the "apathy" of subsequent governments to give the CET a legal framework has affected thousands of students, according to a group of policy makers, who will voice their concern in this regard at "Jagruta Samavesha" to be held in Bangalore on Monday.
Credit flow
The samavesha will also discuss issues concerning those living in rural areas, credit flow to agriculture and rural sector, rural infrastructure and the rise of unemployment among the urban youth. Addressing a press conference here today, K. Thejomaya, former Chairman of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority, said many political leaders including B.S. Patil Sasnur, Vasu, V.S. Koujalagi, Sadat Ali Khan, H.M. Revanna, M. Krishnappa, Rani Satish, K.M. Nagaraj, Baburao Chinchansur, B.B. Chimmanakatti, B.J. Puttaswamy, H.C. Niravari, H.M. Chandrashekarappa, Ivan D'Souza, Qamar-ul-Islam, Sadananda Poonja and others will participate in the meeting. A number of leaders from Dakshina Kannada will also attend the samavesha, he added. Mr. Thejomaya said the samavesha will discuss, among other matters, the importance of making professional education available to all classes of people.
