Clear debris

from roads

Sir, — Building material such as sand and stones are being dumped on the roadside. The material sometimes remains on the roadside for days and weeks causing a lot of hardship and inconvenience for pedestrians. Sometimes the sand spills onto the roads and cause accidents, especially involving two-wheelers. The debris needs to be cleared as soon as the work is over. The Mangalore City Corporation and authorities concerned should take steps to check this problem.

Shift

post office

Sir, — The Ambalapadi post office is operating from a small run-down building. At times, there are long queues and one has to wait for fifteen minutes just to buy stamps. The place is congested and there is no space to wait, write letters or make phone calls. I request the authorities to shift the post office to a spacious building and provide better facilities to the public.

Speed breakers required

Sir, — The number of accidents on the Ring Road in Gulbarga is increasing each day. Tipu Sultan Chowk, Mehboob Nagar Bus Stop, Hagarga Cross, and Mohammad Rafi Chowk witness more number of accidents. Though the area around the Ring Road is densely populated, vehicles continue to travel at high speeds. It is very difficult for people to cross the road as there are no speed breakers to regulate the speed of vehicles on the road. I request the authority concerned to construct speed breakers on the Ring Road to prevent rash driving and reduce the number of accidents.

Encourage

paper lottery

Sir, — I am of the opinion that paper lottery should be encouraged as it provides more employment opportunities to people. However, lotteries from some States are misguiding the public. I feel the sale of such State lotteries should be banned in Karnataka. In Karnataka, around 54 draws are held each week. The public has a right to know who the winners of the lotteries are. The State should announce the name and details of people who win more than Rs. 50,000 in a lottery.

According to Section (4) of the Central Government Lottery Act, the State should print lottery tickets and conduct a public draw of prizes. However, some State lotteries are being printed by individuals and sold in other States. Such lotteries must be banned. I request the Government to conduct public draws of the Karnataka State Lottery and announce the name of the winners.

Anushappan,

Bhadravathi.
