CHENNAI, JAN. 30. It was an eye-opener on exam preparations for many of those who attended the model exam of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), organised jointly by The Hindu Education Plus and AIMS Education. About 2,400 students took up the model exam at six centres across the city to test their ability in three subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics. The three-hour examination conducted as a mock test for the forthcoming AIEEE in May had objective type questions for 75 marks each. Students had an opportunity to prepare for the entrance exam through this test, for which there was no fee. The SBOA Junior College, Anna Nagar, had the maximum number of students attending the exams, with over 900 candidates. Though some students found the exam tough, they unanimously agreed that it boosted their confidence to take up the AIEEE exam. S. Chitra of Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, said: "I was not sure about taking up the exam, which was more suited for CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) students. This mock test has raised confidence levels to appear for the exams." J. Nishitha and Isha Ekta from Anna Adarsh Matriculation Higher Secondary School felt that AIEEE was different from other entrance exams such as Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination in terms of the syllabus and time slot. "I learnt about time management and accuracy in this mock test," said Nishitha. The other five exam centres were at Adyar, Gopalapuram, Vepery, Tambaram, and Virugambakkam. While many candidates had prepared from books on entrance examinations, a few like Mukesh of Mercury Matriculation Higher Secondary School took help from relatives. Participants also learnt the results of their performance through a discussion session with professors. Gita Prabhu, executive director of AIMS Education, said the objective of the mock test was to highlight the benefits of AIEEE. The entrance exam offers 15 per cent open seats in state-level institutions across India for B.E., B.Tech and B.Arch courses. The event was co-sponsored by Jaya Group of Educational Institutions and NIIT.
