COIMBATORE,
JAN. 30.
Duraisamy (55), a Sub-Inspector of police in Sankarankoil died in a road accident on the Palladam-Tirupur Road. Duraisamy, his son in-law, Raja and grandson, Vipilesh, were travelling by a car to Tirupur, from Palladam, when it collided with a lorry. All the three sustained grievous injuries.
Chain snatched
A 19-year-old girl was robbed of her gold chain and ring by two motorcycle-borne persons. The incident occurred at Pazhaiyur near Pappainaickenpalayam. Race Course Police have launched a hunt for the culprits.
Fast
About 450 villagers, including 75 women, staged a fast today at K. Krishnapuram near Palladam, to protest against the pollution allegedly caused by an industrial unit. The fast was organised by the National Agricultural Awareness Movement. The villagers said that smoke from the unit caused air pollution and effluents had affected groundwater.
