HYDERABAD, JAN. 30. Residents of several colonies in Sanjeevareddy Nagar now have a new facility of electronic beat system wherein the visit of a police constable to their localities during night patrol can be monitored with an electronic gadget.

This facility makes the beat constables more accountable unlike the earlier point book system, wherein a constable would simply sign on a book provided by the house owner, as per his convenience.

The facility was inaugurated by the Khairatabad MLA, P. Janardhan Reddy, on Sunday. Explaining the features of the system, the Sanjeevareddy Nagar police inspector A. Venkat Ratnam, said the system comprises of a radio frequency reader and a specially made chip.

Sure shot method

"The chip is affixed on the compound wall of the house. The constable has to place the radio frequency reader device before the chip, which records the time and date of his visit. This ensures that the constable has paid a visit at the given time, without delay," he said.

A computer in the police station would record all the data pertaining to the visit of the constables.

The system already exists in areas in the East Zone police jurisdiction and Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills.

Each chip costs Rs. 100. The chips have been affixed in 120 houses in and around Sanjeevareddy Nagar while six devices have been purchased at a cost of Rs. 11,000 each. Reddy Labs and Aurobindo Pharma have sponsored the devices.

The Joint Commissioner of Police, R. Eswara Reddy, and the West Zone DCP, N. Sanjay, were among those present.
