Divergent views over shifting of Collectorate

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 30. Should the Hyderabad Collectorate be shifted? If so, where? This question figured during the District Development Review Committee meeting held on Saturday.

The BJP MLA, Kishan Reddy, wanted that the Collectorate be moved to the old building of Gandhi Medical College (GMC) at Basheerbagh while the Majlis wanted that it be shifted to the Old City. Deviating from the agenda, the legislators gave vent to their feelings.

The present office, Mr. Kishan Reddy said, was congested. There was no room for parking vehicles nor place to stage dharna. He felt that shifting the Collectorate to the vacant GMC building would solve the problem.

Collector's promise

Akbaruddin Owaisi (Majlis) put up a spirited argument in favour of the Old City. He wondered why every project should go to the new city - whether it was the Hi-tec City, Lasarium or Imax theatre.

The Old City had nothing to boast of, except for dirt and congestion. He asked the Collector, Arvind Kumar, to create job opportunities and recreational facilities in the Old City.

The Collector assured that he would consider setting up a swimming pool and indoor stadium in the Chandrayangutta constituency after inspecting the sites on February 5.
