Rain forecast

Generally cloudy sky with a chance of rain or thundershowers in parts of the city has been forecast for Monday. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 17 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 27.3 degree Celsius and minimum temperature was 18 degrees Celsius with a relative humidity of 58 per cent.

Recognition for young poet

B.P. Apurva Iyengar, a B.Com (Hon) student has won special recognition among 118 students selected worldwide from 3,307 poets in the second VoicesNet Youth Web Words International Poetry Competition. According to a press release issued here by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, her poem `There Love Resides' stood first among Indian entries and 46th in the world.

Presidential award

K. Lakshmi Patni of Custom and Central Excise Hyderabad was presented with the Presidential Award for meritorious service for 2003. The award was presented to him by the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, on January 25 at a function held at New Delhi.

Competitions

The Factories Department in association with National Safety Council, Andhra Pradesh Chapter organised painting and slogan competitions on the themes of `Safety-Health-Environment' and essay writing competition for women on `Domestic Safety' on Sunday. The competitions were organised for schoolchildren, students of ITI, Polytechnic and Engineering Colleges and women.
