Ex-servicemen to get `cashless' treatment

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, JAN. 30. The Office of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme, Tiruchi, has signed a memorandum of agreement with Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, here recently to extend `cashless treatment' to ex-servicemen and their dependants.

The expenses would be reimbursed by the ECHS. The Administrative Commander, Col. Mohanti, Station Commander, Col. Padmanaban and Dr. N. Sethuraman, founder-chairman, MMHRC, signed the MoA.

Besides, the ECHS had planned to open polyclinics in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli. Patients from these polyclinics would be referred to MMHRC for secondary and tertiary care.

In Military Stations, ECHS members and their authorised members requiring hospital admission, would, if the member desired, be referred to the service hospital in the station. When beds/facilities were not available in the service hospital, the patients would be referred to an empanelled hospital subject to choice and desire of patients.

In non-military stations, the polyclinic would refer patients requiring hospital admission to the nearest service hospital/empanelled hospitals. The choice of service or empanelled hospital vests with the ECHS member.

In emergencies and life threatening conditions, when patients were not able to follow the normal referral procedure, they might be admitted to any nearest hospital, preferably service/empanelled hospital.

In case of admission to a non-empanelled hospital, the ECHS beneficiary or his/her representative should inform the nearest ECHS Polyclinic within 48 hours of admission.
