NEW DELHI, JAN. 30. Two persons, who were allegedly supplying fake driving licences and vehicle registration certificates, were arrested from Mangolpuri in North-West Delhi by the Crime Branch this Saturday. Rubber stamps of transport authorities of different cities and States, a computer, printer incriminating documents were recovered from their possession. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Tejinder Luthra, the Crime Branch received a tip-off that a resident of Punjabi Relief Camp, identified as Charanjit Singh, was preparing fake driving licence and other documents. The police sent a decoy customer to Charanjit to fix a deal for a driving licence in the name of Govind and a registration certificate of a Santro car in the name of Narender Singh. Charanjit demanded Rs. 2,000 for the job and took Rs. 1,500 as advance. The same evening, when the decoy went to collect the document, the police mounted a raid and arrested Charanjit red-handed. Four more fake driving licences were recovered from his possession. During a search of his house, the police found fake stamps of transport authorities of Moradabad, Guwahati, Bareilly, Dehra Dun, Una, Amritsar and other places. Charanjit disclosed that he had been faking the documents with the help of Puran Chand. He was also arrested and a computer, printer, a rewritable compact disc containing details of scanned photos and details of the licences and 33 blank driving licences were recovered from his house. Puran, a graduate from Delhi University, is a qualified graphic designer. He was working with a firm named Pinto Pack at Paschim Vihar. However, to make quick buck he started faking the documents in connivance with Charanjit about three years ago. Charanjit used to find clients for him.
