Bihar affairs

Sir, — The spate of kidnappings in Bihar has become an electoral issue. No one seems to be concerned about the agony of the kidnapped students, their parents and relatives. Whoever wins the elections, the school students of Bihar will be the losers.

Abdul Monim,
Mumbai

Sir, — The students of Bihar, who took to the streets to protest the State's inaction, have become role-models for educated adults.

Erode, T.N.

Sir, — While the role of vested interests in adding to the lawlessness to bring disrepute to the RJD Government cannot be ruled out, it is also true that abductions are routine in Bihar. Under the RJD regime, Bihar's administration has come to a grinding halt.

Shadab Ahsan,
Gaya, Bihar

Sir, — The abductions have been taking place in full media glare, thanks to the approaching Assembly elections. Almost the whole nation has now woken up to the extent of lawlessness in Bihar.

Gaurav Dua,
New Delhi

Sir, — Over the years Bihar has become synonymous with lawlessness, backwardness, and gross anarchy. The RJD's misgovernance has been compounded by consistent neglect by the Centre.

Anil Kumar Pandit,
New Delhi

Sir, — The spate of kidnappings is not just a pointer to the law and order in the State. It points to the emergence of a class of human beings devoid of any sense and sensibilities. They have no qualms in scoring political points using children. No political party will stop them; on the contrary, the parties will patronise the perpetrators if they find that the strategy pays electoral dividends.

M.D. Dinesh Nair,
Vijayawada, A.P.
