Science contests for students

BELGAUM, JAN. 31. The District Science Centre will organise taluk- and district-levels competitions for students as part of National Science Day in February.

According to a press release here on Monday, the competitions in various categories will be held for primary and high school students in Kannada language only. Competitions will be held in elocution, science songs, quiz, essay writing, drawing and science models using clay.

The topic for elocution competition for primary school students is: "My favourite Scientist, Sir C.V. Raman." For middle school students the topic is: "Contribution of Indian Scientists to Physics" (both five minutes duration).

The songs should be based on classical ragas and have well-defined notations. The quiz competitions will be based on both science and mathematics textbooks with two participants in each team. All these three competitions will be first held at the taluk level.

The competitions to be held at district level are: essay writing for primary and middle school students on the topics "Rainwater harvesting" (1,000 words) and "Tsunami destruction" (1,500 words). The drawing competitions will be on the common topic "Superstition" for both primary and high school students. The competitions in science models using clay are common for both primary and high school students.

A student can participate in one event only. All the essays and drawings should reach the President, DSC, c/o Belgaum Science Centre, Shivabasavanagar, Belgaum 10, before February 15. Participants securing the first place in taluk-level competitions will be allowed to participate in the district-level competitions.
