Woman dies of leptospirosis

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 31. A 21-year-old woman, Sindhu, from Nettayam, Kachani in Vattiyoorkavu panchayat, died of leptospirosis (Weil's Disease) at the Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Monday.

She was admitted to the medical intensive care unit of the hospital on January 28 with fever and various complications. A medical team from the Vattiyoorkavu Primary Health Centre visited the locality to assess the situation. Health awareness classes are being organised in the panchayat on Tuesday.

Help sought

The District Collector, Tinku Biswal, has urged all sections of people to cooperate with the special welfare programme of the National Federation of the Blind. She was speaking after inaugurating the special welfare programme office of the NFB here today. The State Programme Coordinator, Manoj Arukandathil, presided.

Dharna

The activists of the Kerala NGO Union today organised a dharna in front of the Tourism Directorate at Park View to protest against the move to privatise the department and demanding withdrawal of the order to post DTPC secretaries on contract basis among other things.
