KOLKATA, FEB.1 . Supporters of the Trinamool Congress today clashed with police over the death of a party activist at Gaighata in North 24-Parganas district. Police fired three rounds to disperse the mob which set ablaze two police vehicles, damaged a Dhaka-bound bus and pelted stones. Several policemen were injured in the stoning.The IGP (Law and Order), Chayan Mukherjee, said the mob had blockaded Jessore Road in Habra this morning demanding the arrest of those responsible for the killing of a driver, Sushanto Sarkar. Sarkar's body was found in a pond on January 29. The Trinamool MLA, J yotipriya Mullick, claimed that Sarkar was a party activist and that 22 party supporters were injured while staging a demonstration demanding the arrest of Sarkar's killers. The SDPO, Arnab Ghosh, who had rushed to the spot, was injured and was hospitalised. A constable was admitted to the State-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata in a critical condition. The police have arrested 32 persons in connection with the incident.
