CHENNAI, FEB. 1. The Madras High Court has restrained P.T. Ummer Koya and Soumen Mazumdar from functioning as Secretary and Treasurer respectively of the All India Chess Federation (AICF). Justice R. Balasubramanian granted the interim injunction restraining the two from "interfering with the day-to-day administration and activities of the All India Chess Federation in any manner and in any capacity pending disposal of the suit". The court was passing orders on applications filed by the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, represented by Manuel Aaron, Secretary, Delhi Chess Association, represented by Bharat Singh, Secretary and Maharashtra Chess Association, represented by Sanjay Kedge, Secretary, seeking restraint on the two officials as their "various acts of misfeasance, malfeasance and siphoning of funds of the All India Chess Federation has resulted in the future of the AICF itself being in jeopardy". The court further restrained Mr. Ummer Koya from acting as AICF's representative and functioning as Vice-President of FIDE and Chairman of the Commonwealth Chess Association until the disposal of the suit.
