Paritala case: five more surrender to police

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, FEB. 1. In the continuing turn of dramatic events in the Paritala Ravi murder case, one of the three alleged shooters, Narayana Reddy, three other members of the action team — V. Konda, V. Seena and V. Ranganayakulu — and another key facilitator in the operation, M. Obula Reddy, surrendered to the police here today evening.

According to the police, they had approached a senior lawyer here, M. Adisesha Reddy, at Obuladevara Nagar in the afternoon and had expressed their willingness to surrender themselves to the police. The lawyer facilitated the surrender.

A police team, comprising the Additional Superintendent of Police, R. Venkateswarlu, the Anantapur DSP, G. Vijayakumar, and the Two Town Circle Inspector, V. John Manohar, went to the advocate's residence and took them into custody. They were moved away with high security to the District Police Office for questioning.

While Narayana Reddy alias Naresh is a native of Bandagonda village of Narayanapet mandal in Mahabubnagar district, Obula Reddy is a native of Tagarkunta village in Kanaganapalli mandal. Konda and Seena belong to Balepalyam village and Ranganayakulu to Konapuram village in Kanaganapalli mandal.

`No regrets'

Asked by newsmen whether he did not feel fear in participating in the operation to kill an influential politician like Paritala Ravi, Narayana Reddy said they had killed him as he (Paritala) was a criminal and several families had suffered because of him. They had neither regrets about the killing nor fears about the consequences, he stated.

He explained that he and Obula Reddy had fled to Shirdi after committing the crime. He was from a farmer family and had not taken money for the killing. On the injury sustained by a bullet fired by one of the gunmen during the operation he said it had pierced through his stomach from a corner and he had only taken antibiotics for its cure.

Konda, Seena and Ranganayakulu had hurled bombs to scare away the crowd to enable the three shooters in the attack to flee the scene of offence, according to the confession of V. Rekhamaiah, who surrendered to the police on January 26 in Mahabubnagar. The latter was arrested yesterday.

The police arrested B. Bhaskar Reddy, and produced him in the court.

He has been in police custody since January 25.

However, the Superintendent of Police, R. S. Praveen Kumar, said that he was not arrested in the Paritala case, but in the murder case of B. Prabhakar of Tagarakunta, the then Mandal Parishad president of Kanagapalli and close associate of Paritala Ravi, in August last year.
