Collector promises land for `Traffic Park'

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE, FEB. 1. The district Collector and Special Officer of Nellore Municipal Corporation, B. Rajsekhar, has assured the Police Department that he will allot three acres of land near Nellore town for the `Traffic Park' proposed by the police.

The Collector, who launched the Traffic Safety Week at the Police Parade Grounds on Tuesday, expressed concern over the lack of traffic sense among people.

The proposed traffic park, he hoped, would go a long way in creating awareness among the people, particularly, students. He wanted traffic awareness to form part of the school curriculum.

The Superintendent of Police and Chairman, Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC), B. Sivadhar Reddy informed participants that 351 persons died and 1,323 persons were injured in road accidents in the district last year. In Nellore town alone 45 persons were killed -- which is said to be the highest in the last five years -- and 256 injured.

The SP has decided to organise a seminar during the traffic week. A number of schoolchildren, officials and non-officials participated in the inaugural programme. Col. Annayya, Commandant, NCC, Anantaramaiah, advocate and others spoke.
