Enumeration of voter list begins in Kancheepuram

By Our Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM, FEB. 1. The door-to-door enumeration of voter's list in the Kancheepuram Assembly Constituency under the special summery revision of Electoral Roll began today.

While around 70 staff of Kancheepuram Municipality were engaged in the enumeration in Kancheepuram town, the job of revising electoral list in 43 panchayats coming under the Kancheepuram Assembly segment were entrusted with the respective village administrative officers.

The enumerators were asked cross check the details in the voter list copy given to them and also enter details with regard to the door number of the houses — new and old numbers. They were also directed to verify the number given under the voter identification card number column against each voter with the laminated Voter ID Card to be produced by the voters, official sources said.

After the revision, a draft voter list would be released on March 1. While special grama sabha meetings would be convened in rural areas to verify the revised list, public hearings would be organised in urban areas for the same purpose before March 15.

It has also been proposed to receive applications for inclusion of names in the list from those who have completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2005 and requisition for deletion of names and to effect changes in address or other details in the voter list within March 15.

A final decision on the applications received for inclusion / deletion / change in details would be taken on March 23 and revised voter list would be released on March 31, sources claimed.

There are about 2.20 lakh voters (1.08 lakh men and 1.12 lakh women) in Kancheepuram Assembly segment.

Meanwhile, enquiries reveal that a similar exercise has been under taken by the Tiruvallur District Administration to conduct summery revision of voter list of Gummidipoondi Assembly segment.
