PONDICHERRY, FEB. 1. A four-member Parliament committee on implementation of the Local Areas Development Scheme, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, K. Rahman, today held discussions with the Lt. Governor, M.M. Lakhera, at Rajnivas and acquainted themselves with the extent of havoc the Union Territory suffered in the December 26 tsunami. A presentation on relief and rehabilitation measures the Union Territory Administration undertook was made at a meeting the MPs had with the Lt. Governor. The MPs had a meeting with the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, later. An official source said the team visited some of the tsunami-hit areas in Lawspet block here. The committee was scheduled to visit the tsunami-hit villages in Cuddalore district tomorrow on their way to Karaikal. They would visit villages in Karaikal and hold talks with the Regional Administrator on February 3, before going to Nagapattinam for an assessment of the damage there before returning to Chennai.
