Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 1. The Pondicherry Government's Agro Products Food and Civil Supplies Corporation (PAPSCO) has drawn up a plan to start a rice mill in the next two months with an outlay of Rs. 3.76 crores, the chairman of the Corporation, V. Bhalan said here today. As part of the corporation's fourteenth anniversary celebrations, several developmental activities had been proposed. The modern rice mill would handle 30 metric tons of rice a day. The site was being finalised. Mr. Bhalan thanked the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, and the Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai, for their cooperation to develop the project and procure funds for it.
Sales outlet
Mr. Bhalan said a petrol-cum-diesel sales outlet would be started by PAPSCO in the Karayambuthur village. Fuel would be available to farmers and others at a relatively cheaper price in the village. The PAPSCO would invest around Rs. 35 lakhs for the petrol bunk and Hindustan Petroleum Company was co-operating with them to open the retail outlet.
Report submitted
The Sandan Balraj Committee, constituted by the Government to go into the proposals for structural reconstitution of the Corporation, creation of jobs and to recommend various avenues for promotions, had submitted its report. The report would be approved by the PAPSCO Board of Directors at its meeting here on February 14. The corporation planned to open two more retail medical shops at JIPMER and Rainbow Nagar as the two shops opened earlier had been very useful to the people. PAPSCO had been functioning as an agent of CONFED (a cooperative federation of Pondicherry) to distribute essential commodities to all fair price shops. Now it had de-linked from the CONFED and would function independently to take care of the fair price shops.
