. The India Tourism Development Corporation will set up a canteen at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari for the benefit of tourists, the Collector, Sunil Paliwal, said today.
Speaking to presspersons here, he said more than 1,000 tourists, who were in the memorial when the tsunami slammed the coast on December 26, 2004, were put to hardship for want of food and water. Hence, it was decided to open a canteen.
The administration decided to expand the Kanyakumari boat jetty at a cost of Rs. 2 crores.
Earlier, he visited the memorial and Thiruvalluvar statue in the newly repaired boat, Tamiraparani, owned by the Poombhuar Shipping Corporation.
