MUMBAI, FEB. 1. K.N. Dhunjibhoy, Chairman, RWITC, briefed the media on the occasion of the McDowell Indian Derby, the stellar attraction of the season to be gone through here on Sunday, February 6. He said " we have decided to create a carnival like atmosphere on Derby day. People can now attend the races with their families after the government of Maharashtra's gesture of allowing children at the race course. The Indian Derby which started in Mumbai in 1942 is the biggest and most important event in the racing calendar'' He also said that the winner of the Indian Derby this year would claim a prize money of Rs. 70 lakhs. Besides the Derby, there are other several races such as the Dr. S.C. Jain Sprinters Cup, the Eclipse Stakes Of India and the Poonawalla Breeders' Multilmillion which will be held during the month of February. Vijay Mallya, Chairman of McDowell, has sponsored the Indian Derby while the other sponsors for the weekend are Pegasus, Noshir Talati, Nanoli Stud Farm, Bookmakers' Association, Manjri Stud, Casino Goa and Daks London. Star News will cover the racing events at the race course on both the days. Ten Sports will telecast live the racing on their channel from 3.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
