CHENNAI, FEB. 1 . Former world No.4, Jelena Dokic of Serbia is another top name to figure in the WTA Hyderabad Open to be played from February 7 to 12. Currently ranked 126, Jelena caused a sensation at Wimbledon in 1999, beating the then World No. 1. Martina Hingis 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. After a fairly long break, Dokic has just returned to competitive tennis and is currently playing at the Volvo Women's Open at Pattaya (Thailand). Announcing Dokic's participation in the Hyderabad Open, Mahesh Bhupathi, Managing Director of Globosport said, "Dokic is the lowest ranked player in recorded history to defeat World No. 1. in the first round of Grand Slam event and is known for her fighting spirit-both on and off the court. Her participation in the third edition of the Hyderabad Open would add a new dimension to the event, capturing the steely determination of the youngster to fight the odds. We welcome her to India and Hyderabad." Winner of five WTA titles, Dokic, who holds a taekwondo black belt, had to take a break because of health problems. The tournament director, Krishna Bhupathi, said, "nobody doubts Dokic's potential to fight back and move up the world ranking. It would be a great opportunity to the youth of India to watch her. I am sure she would enliven the Hyderabad courts with her game and attitude."
